Fun designs

I love the designs in this coloring book. I've bought about half a dozen coloring books so far and I prefer those that combine natural, or "realistic," images with intricate designs. In other words, not completely abstract (like mandalas) but not just plain pictures of, say, a mountain scene or bed of flowers. This book is similar to another favorite of mine, Marty Noble's Art Nouveau Animal Designs, in its blending of intricate design with animal shapes, and it hits the sweet spot in terms of level of detail--it's not boring and it doesn't make me cross-eyed. I put "realistic" in quotes earlier because the insects in this book are highly decorated and not actually realistic at all. But they're fun to color. The only slightly negative comment I have is that some of the background designs are repurposed. There are a couple of beetles, for instance, set against a background that is also used in the Art Nouveau book (a picture with foxes, birds, and trees). I'm not super-excited to color almost the same picture twice. But I can see where it makes sense for the artist and/or publisher to decide to do this, given the low prices charged for these books. The paper quality is fine, and I like that the images are printed on one side only.

I did not expect to love this coloring book. Bugs? However; after coloring my first picture, this has become a favorite of mine. The art work is flowing and complex, with flowers, vines, leaves, trees and other natural wonders intertwined and combined in both the images and borders to create beautiful, stunning illustrations, then insects and butterflies are strategically placed as the focal point of each image and adorned with an imaginative style that both adds a touch of fantasy and also balances the whole picture, adding the elements together, creating and transporting us into the realm of fantasy.
I used Bic Mark it markers for my first picture, but plan on using Crayola watercolors, Prismacolor and Fiskars Gel pens on a couple more.
1. 31 Illustrations printed one per page (the back of each page is blank) on heavy weight, bright white, perforated (for easy removal of Page) paper.
2. The pictures are very detailed and have small areas and designs, and perfect for Colored Pencils, Gel Pens, Markers, Sharp crayons or could even be painted.
3. All markers I tested leaked through the paper so if you are using markers, place 2 sheets of scrap paper under the page you are coloring and leave them until the picture is dry. This will protect the next picture. The pages are perforated so it is very easy to also remove the page from the book. Markers tested(Triplus Fineliner, Bic Mark-it ultrafine, Sharpie ultra fine, Stabilo 88, Pentel)
4. Another thing I love about this book is that the details are complete, you know when you are coloring a line and suddenly it vanishes. This book is not like that.
I used Bic Mark-it ultra fine markers, the set of 36 (Sold on Amazon) to color my first picture in this book and I love the results of both the illustration itself and the Reverse Art that is created by the Bic markers seepage to the back of the page. I am downloading images of both the front and back to share with you. This combination of Creative Havens paper and Bic Markers creates amazing Reverse Art in all of their coloring books, with the end results worthy of framing

Crisp, intricate, gorgeous designs on high-quality paper!

I've hardly started on it, but so far, I love it. The lines are thin and clean, the pages are varied, and the designs are gorgeous! The pages are intricate and beautiful. I was so glad that the designs are printed on only one side of each page, and the paper is very high quality. The pages have perforated edges for easy tearing, too. Can't say enough of this book - definitely going to check out more Marty Noble / Creative Haven books now.
